graybo - baaaa... I'm just following the crowd. And, frankly, you can keep your tepid lifeless beer, it fails on every front and should be ashamed to call itself beer!

'Fraid I'm responsible for your love of Guinness as my doctor recommended it to me when pregnant as an alternative to iron tablets!! 'Your' bump was a handy place to rest the pint glass too - ah,these were the good old days before 'elf and safety!

Why is everyone suddenly linking to this five year old article today?

Hmm. Beer. But none of that tar-like gunge. I'm going to have me a proper English beer - warm, flat and with dead rats' feet floating in it. The best sort.

It IS good for you! I'm sure I've got a copy somewhere of a paper based on a double blind, placebo controlled long term study that was done on this very subject. For the life of me I can't remember which journal published this paper but I definitely remember seeing it somewhere . . . In any case, the over all result was that Guinness is good for you by a significant margin over placebo.

I used to sign up for all sorts of medical studies when I was at the University of Iowa. I remember sitting in a meadow in May, sneezing my head off because I had been given the bloody placebo. We were never offered the Guinness trial though. My luck would be that if it had been offered, I would have had the control arm of the study again.
